Today is the Top Ten Horror and Science Fiction Movie Quotes Blogfest hosted by Ellie Garrat and iZombie. Wasn’t going to sign up, since I’ve been in blogfest overload, but I saw that I could be number thirteen in a horror-related event. So why not?
10. “It’s alive. It’s…alive!” – Frankenstein Watch Colin Clive deliver this line. Eighty years later, this is still one of the most chilling films ever made.
9. “I have a bad feeling about this.” – Star Wars Trilogy I love the running gag through the first trilogy with nearly every central character from Han Solo to C-3PO delivering this line at some point.
8. “You can’t fight in here! This is the war room!” – Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb You don’t even need a context to love this line.
7. “Give him the seda-give!” – Young Frankenstein A horror spoof still counts as horror, right? Marty Feldman is one of those great comic actors hardly anyone’s heard of for some reason, and never is he better than during his master’s impromptu life-or-death game of charades.
6. “This means something.” – Close Encounters of the Third Kind Could you look at a plate of the mash potatoes the same way after seeing this movie?
5. “Come with me if you want to live.” – Terminator/Terminator 2 A great, well-written line of dialog. It sums up the urgency and the stakes for both films.
4. “We should go inside. They mostly come out at night. Mostly.” – Aliens I imagine most people are going to use the “Get away from her you bitch!” line, but for me, this is far and away the best line of the film.
3. “Gort, ‘Klaatu Barada Nikto’.” – The Day the Earth Stood Still Any list of science fiction movie quotes should come with this line pre-installed. The most memorable line from the greatest of all SF films (the original, of course).
2. “What are you doing, Dave?” – 2001:a Space Odyssey Didn’t care for this film all that much as a whole, but I loved the middle part with Hal, especially his desperate attempt to smooth things over with Dave after his attempt to kill Dave fails. Anything creepier than a dying homicidal computer singing “Daisy”? Only one thing I can think of…
1. “They’re coming to get you, Barbara.” – Night if the Living Dead As nasty (in a good way) as the rest of the film gets, there’s not too much that matches the creepiness of the line from the early going. Forty plus years of advanced visual effects, innovative storytelling, and surprise plot twists have not been able to unseat this film as the most disturbing horror flick of all time (although Audition comes close *shudder*).
Have to love a list containing Young Frankenstein - one of my all time favourites.
ReplyDelete"Taffeta darling!" is quoted a lot in our house!
You picked some great ones!
ReplyDeleteA great list! I used the B**** line from Aliens, but I almost used..."Yeah, but its a dry heat."
ReplyDelete:)
You've got some good ones. There are so many I totally forgot about.
ReplyDeleteAn awesome list, which includes one of my favourites. I'm so pleased you took number 13 as a good omen!
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking part.
Top Ten Movie Quotes Blogfest
The Alien quote was my second choice from that movie.
ReplyDeleteYou took me way back with some of those quotes, and I shudder too at Night of the living dead.
ReplyDeleteAh, I hate space oddysy; for the same reasons. Good quotes, when you care to pay attention, but eew, otherwise. Yep, sat through the whole movie. Twice I think.
ReplyDeleteTerminator; Day the Earth Stood Still, Close Encounters; yeah, good movies.
....dhole
Young Frankenstein! What a fun movie. The Day the Earth Stood Still is fab. One of my friends quotes Gort all the time. I should of thought to put it on my list.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen most of these, thanks for the list. (also, I didn't know that about Star Wars, now I'll have to listen for it).

I love all the quotes from Terminator 1 and all the spawns that came after. I loved reading all your quotes.
ReplyDeleteClose Encounters is the reason it has taken me about 15 goes to name my WIP.
Great quotes! Almost every list has had a Star War's quote (which is fitting I think) and lots of great quotes from all over. I did a sci-fi spoof for my #1 so I definitely think your spoof horror counts!
ReplyDeleteAwesome quotes. I love that you added Frankenstein.
ReplyDeleteSome great classics! I think it's easy to forget the less gory (by today's standards) horror of the past, even though it still is so chilling.
ReplyDeleteI thought about using "it is full of stars," but no one ever gets it when I say it out loud. I think I need a geekier class of friend.
ReplyDeleteYoung Frankenstein is such a great movie.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that almost everyone, including myself, chose lines from Aliens instead of the original.
Very nice! I forgot about Close Encounters. Love the Young Frankenstein and 2001: A Space Odyssey mentions. I was given Dr. Strangelove for Christmas, but haven't seen it yet. I think I'd better hurry up!

Love the Dr. Strangelove quote. I agree with your assessment of the original Night of the Living Dead -- fancy special effects are not everything.

Okay, how could I not have noticed this before? "I have a bad feeling about this" - now I'm going to have to watch Empire and Return again.
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes from Dr. Strangelove, Terminator 2 Aliens and 2001. This has been an awesome blogfest.
I was late getting around to reading everyone's quotes, but I like the 2001: A Space Odyssey quote. I even used one from the movie.
ReplyDeleteThe Star Wars quote isn't well executed in the prequels, though.
he he some of these can really make you laugh! :)
