Sanguine Something or Other

I’m not dead.  I don’t think.

Writers_Block_1I haven’t been blogging lately.  Haven’t been doing much of anything, in fact.  I’m on vacation, you see; I go back Thursday.  I thought I’d spend a good part of my time off work putting together some posts when I wasn’t kicking out page after page of my WIP.  There’s just been the one problem, though.

I don’t have much to write about these days.

I started this blog as sort of an online journal, a written record of journey as a writer: querying, revising, starting new projects, building a platform.  The thing is, I haven’t done any of that lately.  And for the first time in months, it’s not because I haven’t had the time.  I just haven’t felt very literary lately.  I don’t know why.  Aside from doing some work around the house, I haven’t done much of anything.  Maybe it’s because for the past few months I’ve been so busy I could hardly think, so when I finally get a chance to breathe, my mind and body have ganged up on me and refused to participate in anything remotely resembling activity.

Don’t worry though, I’ll snap out of it.  I can coerce mind and body into functioning again – I have dirt on them.  Soon the words will flow, and soon I’ll be back at work, time off once again nothing more than the hint of a distant land on the horizon.  It’s okay, though.  I seem to do my best when I’m overwhelmed.

Go figure.

  3. I agree with Joanne. Sometimes we need a break. Mine was in February--all I really accomplished was blogging. My WIP was worried that I'd abandoned the whole idea, but not to worry, I'm back to work.

  5. Good to have you back Dan. I thought you have given yourself to the demon of blogfests for a while.

  8. After a long break you'll be missing all of us and feel the need to get back at it. Take you're time, we'll all be here when you get back.

  11. Usually when I allow myself to take a break and do anything other than writing, the words sneak back in.

Hope it works the same for you too!

  12. Maybe your muses just needed a vaca too! I'm sure they had a great time, little umbrellas in their drinks, and are back and ready to inspire you! :-)

  13. Sometimes writing prompts or exercises help. One method I use is combining elements from stories in my back closet. I'm sure you will get back to writing soon.

  14. No worries. I am taking off next week for Florida for a vacation because I need to recharge for a bit too. I know how you feel. Sometimes I have a lot on my mind and sometimes I just have nothing to say. It depends on the mood. lol

  15. Hi Dan,

I wanted to pop over and say how much I appreciated your thoughtful response to my 'Author Vs Author' post last week. Reader insight is the entire reason I post those kinds of things, so it means a lot when people take the time to share.

As for blogging, I wouldn't worry too much. It tends to evolve over time. I started out thinking I'd blog in a certain fashion, and it has changed 2 or 3 times over the course of a year.

Just keep posting about things you think are interesting, relate it back to writing (or whatever central theme you choose) and get ideas from other bloggers.

  16. I think this happens in some form to everyone at various times. The body and mind will regroup after some restful kindness and you'll be up and running again.
